At Redcourt, Key Stage 2 includes children in Preps 3 to 6. Good liaison is fundamental to our approach. Working with parents we seek to identify and nurture our pupils potential and provide opportunities to develop confidence and a wider range of skills.
Beginning in Prep 3 the form teacher helps the children to learn how to work more independently and apply the knowledge and skills already acquired. Core subjects are taught thoroughly, drawing on the skills of specialist teachers to provide a secure grounding in Literacy, Numeracy, Science and ICT.
Each year we send our pupils to local Grammar Schools via the 11+ and Entrance Examination system, and our success rate is very high. We take special pride in our results as we have a non-selective intake throughout the school from Nursery.
Formal preparations for Entrance Exams and the 11+ begin in Prep 5 and children attend Saturday morning school. Special VR teaching is given to ensure all children have the best chance at success. The Headmaster and form teachers help parents in their choice of school and provide guidance.
We expect as much from the juniors' outside the classroom as inside it. Team work, social skills and confidence all develop quickly through involvement in a whole host of Sports and Games. The children have the opportunity to develop skills in Hockey, Rounders, Netball, Rugby, Gymnastics, Athletics, Swimming, Football and Cross Country. Sport is important at Redcourt and your child will move to Secondary School with a love of Sport and an understanding of the need for a healthy lifestyle. We also encourage all children to participate in a host of extra-curricular clubs/activities. There is a diversity of clubs. ranging from imporving their sporting, ICT and musical skills.
In Prep 6 the children have the opportunity to travel to France on a five day residential. This is hugely popular and draws on the knowledge acquired from FS1 as the children have to converse and even order their food in French
Our children thrive spiritually, emotionally, academically and physically against the background of the values of Edmund Rice.
The well being and understanding of each individual child is key to our success in the juniors', valuing enthusiasm, tolerance, respect and a sense of humour.
