| IEUAN - NATIONALS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMP! |
|
| "On Saturday 5th March, Lewis Hardman and I went to the ISA Nationals Cross Country Race in Rugby. The race was 2.2km long with a big muddy hill and a steep downhill finish. There was about 80 boys in the race and that made it scary because we knew they we all going to be good runners! It was a race that would determine the best runner in England. We both had a great run making the North of England proud!! In the end I came 3rd and Lewis came 36th!”

Well done to both boys, especially Ieuan.
Redcourt is very proud to have such dedicated,
determined sportsmen like you! |

RUGBY
REDCOURT TRIUMPHANT OVER BIRKENHEAD
|
|
| As always it is a very daunting task to be playing against Birkenhead School, as they always have a very strong team. This wasn’t helped by the fact that our Captain – Matthew Oulton – was skiing down a mountain somewhere and another player – Alix Esclapez – was injured in the warm-up!
However, we started well and despite some early pressure Birkenhead took the lead. When this might normally mean the team would then crumble, instead they came back as stronger than ever. They managed to score try after try and tackled as if their lives depended on it. The boys deserve immense credit as they battled hard and seemed to do everything they have ever been asked to do – rucking, tackling, passing, and playing as a team. As a very even contest begin to come to a conclusion Birkenhead School drew level with 5 tries each. With only seconds left however, Redcourt managed to sneak over the line once again to record a brillian 6-5 try victory!
A very impressive victory and well done to all the boys who battled so hard to achieve it.
Well done!

Both finished in the top 10 at the ISA Cross Country event , held in Cheadle Hulme on 9th February 2011. Well done and good luck – we shall keep you posted!!
Lucy Teare reports:-
“It was a cold and windy day but Redcourt still kept their hopes up. I think most of the children were scared of how big the course was going to be!!
Year 5 girls ran first and Orla lost one of her trainers in the mud!! Year 5 boys were up next then Year 6 girls. Finally Year 6 boys ran and Ieuan Kearney came a fantastic 4th and Lewis Hardman came 10th which means they are both through to the Nationals!
We all had a great day!”

| U7's SWEET SUCCESS |
|
| U7 St Anselm’s College Football Festival 11th February
A huge congratulations to Prep 2’s Football Team who won the U7 Football Festival at St Anselm’s College. Five pupils from Miss Stevenson’s class and three from Miss Critchley’s class were selected for the tournament on Friday 11th February. We were first to arrive at the Sports Hall and the boys began to warm up immediately. When Our Lady & St Edwards and St Peters arrived our boys were already focused and ready to play. Our first game was against Our Lady & S t Edwards and with a superb performance form Lloyd Burrows in goal, we won 4 – 0!! There was a short interval and Redcourt were then up against St Peters. Fantastic strikes from Will Clayton, Alex Whaley and Jake Gahan which led us to a convincing 7- 0 victory! After some refreshments, kindly provided by St Anselm’s College, we were back in the Sports Hall for our second round of games. With Joseph McIver in goal and Finlay Onwuemene on the wing we again beat Our Lady & St Edwards 4 – 1. A brief turn-a-round and we played our final game of the festival against St Peters – Guy Pickering was superb up-front causing many problems for the defences and Cason Brady was solid at the back clearing-up any danger that came near our goal. A fantastic team effort from all gave us a deserved 6 - 0 win.
There was great sportsmanship between all the schools and Mr O’Keefe, the event organiser, commented on the fair play and good spirit in which all the games were played. The boys are now through to the next round of matches in March.

| Netball v’s Merchant Taylors Wednesday 26th January
On Wednesday afternoon, Redcourt’s U11 ‘A’ Team travelled to Merchant Taylors, Crosby to play netball. We were accompanied by Miss Kennerely, Mrs Wise and Mrs Sullivan. The match was divided into three, ten minute thirds. Merchant Taylors scored first and we all thought we were going to be beaten! However, Grace Astbury equalised then Jenny Wise scored to make the score 2 -1 to us!! Grace Astbury played brilliantlyand in the second third scored three more goals. We made two substitutions in the final third – Anna Webster and Lois Bryan came on for Grace Astbury and Lucy Teare. Anna, although only playing competitive netball since recently joining Redcourt played extremely well! The final score was 8 – 2 to Redcourt!
Mrs Sullivan was very proud of us and we all played very well.

| REDCOURT vs VALE OF LUNE RUGBY CLUB |
|
| On the 15th January 2011 ‘Vale of Lune RUFC’ came down from Lancaster to spend a weekend on the Wirral and play two matches, first of which was Redcourt with support from ‘Anselmians Rugby Club’, the boys who kindly helped out were Ewan, Joe, Charlie, Charlie and Jack. It was obvious from the start that the two teams were well matched, Redcourt actually shading the early scrums. Vale quickly got into their stride showing great skill with three tries scored without reply then Redcourt showed great determination bouncing back with a great try scored by Ieuan and a great conversion from Josh. Vale scored two more tries afterwards then the final whistle went and the score finished at 5-1 to Vale, we shook hands and walked into the club house for sausage and chips but no the day didn’t end there, in fact it went on for another few hours for some!
We presented each other trophies and Mr. Kimpton thanked the’ Vale of Lune’ boys for coming al the way down from Lancaster on behalf of all of us. After that all the boys from both teams went out and played touch rugby together. The second team played afterwards and Mr. Tagg made his debut at scrum half which was great fun for all the boys to watch their teacher play. It was truly a great day, thank you to the Anselmians boys once again, Anselmians club for letting us use the resources and all the teachers for organising it!

Redcourt on the Road to Wembley
|
|
| Redcourt are to represent Tranmere Rovers in the next stage of Under 11 npower Football League Kids Cup at Hillsborough, Sheffield, after winning the local final last Thursday, 25th November.
Redcourt now qualify for the north of England finals at Sheffield Wednesday’s ground in March which, if they qualify, will culminate in three finals across the npower Football League Play-Off weekend in May and one final prior to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium in April.
The closely fought final between Redcourt and St Joesph’s Primary School, Birkenhead, was decided by an own goal in the last minute of extra time. Redcourt were victors from a 6-a-side competition organised by Tranmere Rovers involving 50 primary schools from across the Wirral. St Peter & Paul Primary School, New Brighton, and Greasby Primary School were the runners up in the final stages held at Prenton Park.
Redcourt’s victory has been part of a winning streak for the school which has been undefeated so far this season, a success which has earned them Christian Brother’s Schools champions in Altrincham in September.
Mr Arnold, Redcourt’s Deputy Head said:
“To win this tournament is a remarkable achievement for the boys and is terrific reward for the excellent form the team have shown this season. Once again it shows the great sporting tradition which the school continues to develop.”

NETBALL
A & B TEAMS FIGHT IT OUT IN FINAL!!
|
|
| On Friday 19th November, Mrs Sullivan and Miss Kennerley took an A and a B team to play netball at St Mary’s Prep School.
We all set off at 12.30pm in the minibus to Crosby, in Liverpool. When we got there we practised our ball skills and warmed up. Both teams were ready and the game started. We were straight in getting lots of goals and playing as a team. The final whistle blew, the A team had successfully won 1-14.
Soon after the B team took their places on the court. Redcourt girls played very well, always winning the ball when possible and getting some smashing goals. When the whistle blew we were tired out but Redcourt had won 0 -11. Because we had won both matches both our teams had to play each other in the final. The A team won, but B tried very hard. The whistle blew – all the games had finished.
The A team were all awarded medals, and applauded. There was one medal left for 'player of the team' from Redcourt which was Jenny Wise.
We all really enjoyed it and had a great time!!

|
| 20th October 2010 We took our team along to Birkenhead Park Rugby Club to the finals of the event, hosted by Martin O’Keeffe –sports co-ordinator at St Anselm’s College.
We got off to a strong start with a 7 – 3 win over last year’s winners, Somerville. Then a very exciting 8 – 6 victory over Our Lady’s. We followed that with two very tense draws against New Brighton and St Peter’s. Luckily our number of tries scored, carried us into the final, where we faced New Brighton again! They went ahead by 2 tries early in the first half but a decisive fight back led us to a 7 – 5 victory!
We received medals and the winners trophy!!
Jenny Wise was awarded Player of The Team for her outstanding efforts and high number of ‘tags’. Lewis Hardman also received a medal for his all-round contribution to the team. Joshua Solomon-Davies also deserves praise for scoring an amazing 15 tries through the morning!

|
| Wednesday 23rd June, only two days after Jonathan, Joshua and Ieuan had taken home Gold from Blackpool, the boys including Andrew Porter, Lewis Hardman and Erin Davies were all representing the North, at The Nationals in Bedford.
These children had done magnificently well just to get to this stage, and were very nervous but very excited about the day. Jonathan and Joshua of course, had qualified last year and were hoping to come home with medals again!!
Joshua was up first doing High Jump and managed a fabulous 1.23m! He had won Silver! Our first medal was in the bag!
Lewis was up against some tough competition in the Year 5 Boys Cricket Ball Throw, and despite achieving a personal best was 4th.
Andrew too was in a difficult group in the Year 6 Boys Shot, also managed a personal best and came 4th.
Joshua was next in the Year 5 Boys 75m sprint and was hoping to emulate his success of last year – he won another Silver!
Jonathan’s Year 6 Boys 80m race was soon after, and he too won Silver!
After a small delay in proceedings, Erin was eager and ready to run in the Year 4 Girls 600m – she ran a wonderfully courageous race, almost tear-jerking, and came 4th.
Finally, Ieuan who had waited so patiently all day, was ready for the Year 5 Boys 600m race. With about 300m to go, Ieuan had a burst of energy and sprinted past four other boys into first position, he held on until about 60m to the line, and managed a well earned Bronze!
The children and parents had had a fantastic experience, one never to be forgotten! With many thanks to Mr Arnold and Miss Kennerley for driving there and back, and to Miss Davis for her support to the nervous competitors. |

|
| Another fun-packed day, egg and spoon, sack race, cricket-ball throw, long-jump, 80m, 200m, 400m, 800m and relays and the rain kept off!! The children had made banners, brought along mascots and had their hair in ribbons the colours of their Houses - the girls and Mr Arnold that is!!
However it was MANOR again, for a fabulous fourth year in succession,
who literally ran away with victory and lifted the trophy! Mr Davey (Headmaster) presented team captains Harry Jollie and Jonathan Nelson with the trophy, to a rapturous roar from the Manor crowd. Grange came in second, Park third and Outwood fourth.
We were privileged to watch wonderful individual running, excellent long-jump personal bests and cracking cricket-ball throws, which gave the crowd lots to cheer about. Erin Davies ran some extremly brave races; Ieuan Kearney also ran
magnificently, full of determination; Joshua Solomon-Davies with super sprinting yet again and Jonathan Nelson won a staggering eight out of eight firsts!!

| U9 TAG RUGBY TOURNAMENT |
|
| Wednesday 19th May ~ U9 Tag Rugby Tournament ~ Abbeygate College
We were delighted to be invited to the picturesque setting of Aldford Village for the U9 Tournament. With a new set of “league” rules for Tag we were al a little apprehensive but a few minutes into the first game we had found our feet!
Erin scored our first try, closely followed by our second from Bailey, meaning we had beaten The Firs 2-1. Our second game against Waverton ‘B’ saw fantastic tries form Lewis (2), Bailey and Arran, and a comprehensive 4-0 win for us.
We knew our third group game against Liverpool College ‘A’ would be our toughest but we started well with some great runs to ‘tag’ the opposition from Bailey. Liverpool College put in some excellent passing and won 3-0. We had finished second in our group.
We then played a very tense Quarter Final game against Huntington, finishing 0-0 and forcing extra time! Luckily a lightening run and fantastic try by Lewis meant we won 1-0.
The Semi-Final against Bridgewater was a very well matched game. We saw great runs from Arran and superb ‘tags’ form Ryan. Lewis’s try made the score 1-1, meaning extra time yet again! With fantastic efforts from end to end with darting runs and swift tagging and unfortunately Bridgewater scored and went through to play the final.
Mr McKinney and I were extremely pleased with the efforts of every player in our matches and the excellent behaviour on our new minibus.
Thanks go to Mr Fielding for his help on the sidelines and to the other parents who came to support the team.
Our team was:
Anna Finegan Bailey Onwuemene
Erin Davies Lewis Burrows

| SWIMMING SUCCESS |
|
| On the evening of Friday 14th May, Redcourt took part in the annual Wirral Primary School Swimming Gala at Europa Pools. Redcourt have always been successful in this competition and the team were hoping to emulate their success - and they did just that!! An excellent all round performance!! The last three races were nail-biting and it was very tense during results time because we knew it was close. Redcourt came 2nd and brought the shield back home to the trophy cabinet!! Well done!! |

| Tuesday, 27th April - Quad Kidz at The Oval, Bebington
A beautiful sunny afternoon and Redcourt took 3 teams to compete against 19 other Wirral schools in an athletics event. Each child had to run in a 75m and 600m race, do a standing jump and vortex throw. Redcourt pupils excelled again with some fantastic running, jumping and throwing!!
Final results revealed that Redcourt’s “A” Team finished FIRST and extra congratulations go to:-
Suzie Roberts - ranked 1st out of all the girls who entered
Jonathan Nelson - ranked 1st out of all the boys who entered
Joshua Solomon-Davies - ranked 3rd out of all the boys who entered.
As you can see from the pictures below, everyone had a fun afternoon. Well done!! |

| RUGBY RUNNERS-UP |

| Thursday 25th March saw Redcourt competing in Wirral's last Cross Country race of the season, held at the Arno in Prenton. It was a relay race and therefore more about fast running rather than stamina. Redcourt did not disappoint again!! The “A” team came in at a fantastic 4th position and the “B” team a brilliant 2nd position. Well done to all of the runners throughout the cross country season. Many thanks go to Mr Bryan (Lois Bryan’s dad) who presented the whole team with an ice lollie each for their hard work! |

| Wednesday, 24th March
The U11 football team travelled to Lady Barn School in Cheadle to compete in the ISA Umbro
semi-final and final.
The semi-final was a convincing 5 – 0 stroll for our boys, who played some excellent football.
The final was against the home team, Lady Barn. It was an exciting match, and could have gone either way. Lady Barn scored a dubious first goal and minutes later Redcourt were awarded a penalty, and Harry Jollie made no mistake in putting the ball in the back of the net. Lady Barn took the lead yet again but this did not deter our boys who had endless shots on goal and showed such determination. But Lady Barn had all of their players behind the ball and made it impossible for our boys to equalise.
The final score was 2 -1 to Lady Barn.
Although we were runners up, the highlight of the day was that Paul Scholes of Manchester United, presented the team with their medals and was kind enough to sign their presentation boxes too. On top of that, he also took the time to have a team photograph with the boys (below) – thank you
Mr Scholes!
It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for both players and parents, and our thanks also go to ISA, Umbro and Lady Barn School! |

|
|
| Friday 19th March
A beautiful afternoon saw Redcourt’s rugby stars dominate this match from beginning to end.
The first half was a flood of (7) tries and (4) conversions from Redcourt (43 – 0).
Our boys continued to dominate in the second half with a further 3 tries, and the final score being Redcourt 58 Abbeygate 7!
A truly professional performance to be proud of – well done boys!! |

| CB'S RUGBY & TAG RUGBY TOURNAMENT |
|
| Friday 12th March, Redcourt hosted the CB U11 Rugby and Tag Rugby Tournament at the Fields. A bright but bitterly cold afternoon did not deter Redcourt’s eager youngsters from participating in an exciting afternoon of rugby, with a great result for both teams finishing runners-up! Another good result was Mr Arnold losing his voice from shouting instructions all afternoon to the U11’s!! Joseph Hay recieved player of the tournament.
Many thanks to Mr McKinney for great refereeing and the mums who did refreshments for the children and adults. |

| EMILY'S FIRST!! (CROSS COUNTRY) |
|
| Thursday 11th March, Redcourt entered Wirral's Primary Cross Country Race again, this time at Arrowe Park. Success came in the form of Emily Mossman who came first out of a field of about 100 runners!! Emily led most of the way and won the girls U10 race with determination and ease. Overall, the girls came second and all received silver medals. Suzie Roberts ran a terrific race too for the girls U11's, coming sixth! Congratulations to the girls - what a great cross country season they are having!! We are so proud of them!!! |

| REDCOURT GIRLS WIN CB CROSS COUNTRY! |
|
| Friday 5th March, the annual CB Cross Country took place on a cold, bright afternoon. The girls raced first over two laps of the course. Suzie Roberts finished a superb 2nd place, with Emily Mossman a fantastic 3rd place. Lucy Teare continued an excellent season finishing 4th.
The boys followed the girls and although it is not the sport of choice for many of the boys, we once again saw an outstanding performance from Lewis Hardman, 3rd. The boys seem keen for the Athletics season to get underway so their cross country fitness can benefit their shorter sprint events!! I’m sure the hard work will pay off boys!!
When results were announced, the boys were in overall third place, and for the first time the girls were winners of the CB Cross Country trophy and all received gold medals. Well done!!

| RETURN MATCHES V'S BIRKENHEAD PREP |
|
| On Friday 12th February, Redcourt held the return matches for Netball and Rugby against arch rivals, Birkenhead Prep. Always hard matches but everyone enjoyed themselves and the experience!
Girls U10 Netball won and U11 girls lost, by a small margin only! Well done girls!
The boys Rugby teams were mixed, both unfortunately loosing. However one of the matches was a very exciting, close game and Redcourt were at one stage in the lead. It really could have gone either way!
Many thanks go to Alex Asher for his superb coaching skills and for refereeing our matches. This day was his last day at Redcourt before he jets off “Down Under” for a new life in Australia! We all wish him lots of luck and we hope to see him and hear his stories when he comes back to visit the UK. The boys and Mr Arnold shall miss him!!!

| A nervous group of girls set out on Friday 22nd January for the CB Schools Hockey Tournament at St Edward’s in Liverpool. The girls had not had much match experience but soon adapted and took control of their first match beating St Mary’s “B” team 2 - 0, with 2 goals from Bethan Thomas.
They went on to a 3 – 0 win over St Edward’s with Suzie Roberts scoring all three!! And completed a great afternoon with a 1 – 1 draw against St Mary’s “A” team and Suzie scored again!
We were all delighted to hear that overall, Redcourt were winners and all received gold medals. Suzie Roberts was given a medal for Player of the Team.
Well done all and thanks to Miss Davis for coaching and referring.

| WIRRAL'S CAPTAINS STEER TEAM TO VICTORY YET AGAIN! |
|
| INDOOR ATHLETICS - Sunday 17th January 2010 |
|
| Suzie Roberts and Jonathan Nelson, Wirral's Indoor Athletics Captain's, emulated their success in a competition against Liverpool, on Sunday 17th January.
The event, held at Leasowe Recreational Centre and organised by Sports For All, saw Suzie and Jonathan both slaughter their races, earning valuable points for their team. Both did amazingly well in their field events too.
The competition was a follow-on from Manchester games in November, when Wirral won the event again - for the second year running. This third victory proves what a strong team Wirral presently has, and for Suzie and Jonathan to both represent and be chosen as team captains is testimony of their talent. It was a proud moment for Wirral and Redcourt too!
The overall score was Liverpool 64 - Wirral 80!! |

Rugby, Football and Netball v's Birkenhead Prep
Friday 4th December 2009
|
|
| RUGBY The boys rugby team was a mixture of Prep 5 & 6 boys, and they played at The Macallister Fields.
It was a close match and although we took an early lead with a try and conversion from Jonathan Nelson, Birkenhead eventually won. |
|
| |
|
| FOOTBALL the boys football team was also a combination of Prep 5 & 6 boys, who had not played together as a team before. Again, this match was played at The Macallister Fields.
The boys looked very smart in their new, yellow kit, supplied by
Mr Hardman (dad of Lewis Hardman 5K). Unfortunately, the football team lost too! |
|
| |
|
| NETBALL The girls netball match was played in Birkenhead's school grounds and the girls later enjoyed refreshments at the Macallister Fields along with the rest of the rugby boys and footballers.
It was Prep 5 team of girls who played and sadly, they lost too. But all team members had a wonderful afternoon!
Thank you to Birkenhead for hosting the games and the refreshments afterwards! ..... more pictures |

| On Saturday 5th December, the boys' hockey team went to Kirkham School in Blackburn, to play in an AJIS tournament. They were against seven other schools.
We left school at 8.00am, in the cold and drizzle, in the shcool's minibus. Luckily for the boys, the weather remained mostly dry during their matches.
The team managed reached the plate final, with goals form Harry Jollie (1), Jonathan Nelson (1) and Joseph Sloss (2).
It was a close final and we missed two open goals - alas, it wasn't enough and we were the runners up.
Happily, the boys all received a medal each.
Well done to Harry Jollie who had a terrific match.
A BIG THANK YOU to Miss Davies for her excellent coaching skills, and to Miss Kennerley for dropping the Year 6 boys straight off at Laserquest, in New Brighton for a party, because otherwise they would have missed it!!

|

Both Jonathan and Suzie were chosen as team captains for Wirral evidencing their individual prior successes, determination and sportsmanship.
Last year the boys team came first and this year they managed to emulate their success
and came first AGAIN!
The girls team came fourth with only 19 points difference between them and first position
- it was such a close and exciting competition!
The squad were up against the best primary athletes from the counties of Liverpool, Cheshire, St Helens, Knowlsey, Greater Manchester and two teams from Lancashire.

| Redcourt v's Old Anselmians - Rugby |
|
| On Saturday 14th November the Year 5's and 6's played rugby against the Old Anselmians Under 10's, 11's and 12's. The match took place on a a rainy day at a very muddy Anselmian's rugby club in Eastham, with Mr Arnold and Mr Scholes coaching us.
After arriving, we sat in the club lounge to keep dry before doing our warm-up on the pitch. The Old Anselmians coach blew for kick-off and both teams attacked from the whistle.
Jonathan Nelson (3), Harry Jollie (1) and Robert Ashton (1) all scored tries for Redcourt but Old Anselmians kept coming back on the attack and eventually score one more try than us, 5 - 6! It was so close and we could have won!
At the end we gave them three cheers, shook hands and went inside for hotdogs and chips together.
