From time to time children may be infected with head lice. Young children are most at risk because of the way they interact. Head lice can be passed from one head to another by close contact. We recommend that girls with long hair should have their hair tied back for school to avoid this risk. Hair bands/slides and clips should be of appropriate school colour (navy blue/black).
If live head lice are detected on a child’s head by a member of staff, parents will be contacted and asked to ‘treat’ the infestation with the recommended lotion before returning their child to school. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT A SECOND TREATMENT IS CARRIED OUT 7 DAYS LATER.
Every parent can help to prevent the problem by regularly checking hair using a plastic detector comb (available from any pharmacist).
