Foundation

At Redcourt we provide a caring, inclusive and stimulating environment for 3 to 5 year-olds where Every Child Matters.  We aim to foster independence and confidence combined with respect and consideration for others. Children are valued as individuals, and their interests and achievements are celebrated. Parents are welcomed and involved as essential partners in their child's education and are able to speak to staff daily as well as in formal parents' sessions.

Staff are highly qualified and expierienced, and encourage conversation and the building of positive relationships in a safe and happy environment.

The children learn about healthy eating during the daily snack time and lunch times. They develop relationships with older children through some shared play and activity times and the House system. Highlights of the year include performing a Christmas play for parents, joining in with House Activities Day, which had a Wild West theme, Sports Day and a visit to "Underwater Street" and celebrating American Independence Day.

The children learn through activities which are largely play-based, following the Foundation Stage Curriculum which incorporates:

  • Language and Literacy
With emphasis on speaking and listening, phonic awareness and leading to shared and individual reading and writing.
  • Mathematics
Includes problem solving, reasoning and numeracy.
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Incorporates science, history, geography, design technology and ICT.
  • Physical Development
  • Activities help develop fine and gross motor skills and co-ordination.
  • Creative Development (including Music and French).
  • Personal and Social Development and Spiritual and Moral
Children learn to value and look after self and others, learn about their own and other cultures through celebrations, and follow the "Here I Am" RE Scheme.

Children and parents can get to know the Nursery staff and setting before they start by joining in with the Tots group on Tuesday mornings

(9.10am - 10.20am)or Friday (2.00pm - 3.00pm)afternoons.

The school is a registered Early Years Provider, and grants are available for 3 and 4 year olds.
