On Friday 3rd July, Redcourt held the annual CB Athletics fixture at The Fields.  St Ambrose, St Edwards and St Mary's all travelled to for a wet and windy day of athletics.  Prep 3 - 6 pupils took part and Redcourt came a close 2nd place to St Ambrose.  St Mary's were 3rd and St Edward's 4th.  The children all had a great day!!  With many thanks to Grace, Tom and Jack Horrocks - ex pupils and pictured below - who helped at the finish line and the long jump.  It was a pleasure and lovely to see them!

        Joshua Solomon-Davies

3rd in Year 4 Long Jump

1st in Year 4 60m Sprint with a new National Record!

Overall our “North”  team finished 2nd!

Jonathan’s Long Jump success came immediately after a nasty fall just before the finish line of the 75m Sprint and he was within inches of a medal.

It was the first year Redcourt had participated in the ISA event, so we are very proud of their achievements!  Well done!

Winners in Wavertree ~ The Primary Games ~ June 2009
Both our Girls Football and our mixed Hockey teams qualified to represent Wirral in Merseysides Primary Games this year and sports legend Lord Sebastian Coe was a guest and took the time to speak to some of our children!
The event was held at Wavertree Sports Complex in Liverpool and the children faced teams from Knowsley, Sefton, St Helens, Halton and Liverpool.
Once again our pupils were outstanding and BOTH teams won their groups!

Quiz

On Friday 5th of June two teams of Prep 5 & 6 students headed down to the Hall for a Quiz.  The opposition was Birkenhead School. They too had brought down two very intelligent teams. The quiz was organized very generously by Mrs. Chan.  After grabbing the last two contestants for the B team.  We were all ready to go! The first round was general knowledge which both of our teams had an equal score on (8), I have to mention Alex Dingle was so excited for this round! Sadly the Birkenhead B team had just edged us by one small point. The game was on!!!  We were tense we got through all the rounds and people had fabulous ideas. We were edging Birkenhead by a point when the final round came! We were determined to get ten out of ten in this round and won by 4 points, we had won the quiz it was a great achievement!
Mrs. Chan was proud of as she thought we did really well in getting 9's and 10’s for our scores. Unfortunately Redcourt B came forth and had done really well but came forth by one point. We all had our photo taken by the teacher that had brought Birkenhead to our school for this great quiz.  We were presented with our medals and were very proud. Here are the people who made up these fabulous Redcourt teams:

The Redcourt B was made up of: Charlotte, Heather, Toby, Alice, Jack & Nicholas.

The Redcourt A was made up of: Naomi, Freya, Alex, Theo, Oscar & Joe.

It was a fabulous day and thank you again to Mrs. Chan who organized this fabulous event.

FRENCH TRIP - 2009
In April, Prep 6 enjoyed a superb residential week in France, courtesy of Kingswood. The children were so excited about their French Trip - for some, they had been looking forward to it since they were in the Nursery, and others had only heard about it more recently as they joined higher up the school!
It was a long drive on the coach, but the journey soon passed. Mr Arnold was most entertaining - he serenaded us as he sang along to his i-Pod tunes in blissful ignorance that he had mustered up an audience. Prep 6 watched a variety of movies, but chatted away during most of them, proving that the art of conversation was still very much alive!
The Kingswood staff tried their hardest to meet all of our requests, and always with a smile. It was my birthday while we were away and the chef made a chocolate gateau, complete with 21 candles!
We all have wonderful memories of the excursions - Rouen, Neufchatel cheese farm, and the World War 1 Trenches at Arras. We were so proud of Prep 6 - their behaviour was exemplary throughout the week. Indeed, several French people passed comment on their manners when we bought our souvenirs in Criel-Sur-Mer on our last day. The children were very keen to use their French and demonstrate their ever expanding vocabulary, especially in the post office when we bought post cards and stamps.
I would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Prep 6 for being such excellent ambassadors for Redcourt and to Miss Jones, Mr Arnold, Mrs, Halligan, Mrs McHugh, Mrs Davey and Alec, for their sparkling enthusiasm, wit and charm which was much appreciated. Indeed, it was the general effervescence and optimism amongst us which helped make our trip so successful and pleasurable (along with great weather!). Thanks again everyone. Photographs are to follow on the website shortly.

School Band Competition

On Friday 27th March, Redcourt’s school band went to Birkenhead High School to enter a band competition against Overchurch Primary School.  Our school did very well playing Super Trouper and Things That Go Bump in the Night.

Over all, our school won the competition - we were very pleased and proud, we all held the cup.  Although it did take quite a few weeks to practise and to get it right!!

We all thanked Mr Burke and Mrs Clixby for all their hard work and effort that they had put in to make the school band shine!  It was a day that we’ll never forget!!

County Chess Tournament

On the 17th March 2009, we took part in the under 9’s zonal County Chess Tournament representing Wirral.  We both won all our games which means we will both receive a trophy which is known as a “Wendy”.  The Cheshire under 9’s team came fourth overall so we are through to the final later in the year.

As a result of our success at U9, we were both asked to play for the U11 team the following week were the team finished seventh overall and qualifies for the plate final.

We are both proud to be representing our county and it is the first time that two boys from the same school have played for the same team.  Well done Redcourt and thanks to Mr Alcock and our parents for helping us succeed.

France 2008

On Monday we left school at 7 a.m. and we arrived at the Chateau at 7 p.m. in the evening. During the week we visited many interesting places including a cider farm, a cathedral and the first World War battlefields. We also took part in fencing and archery and on Thusday evening we had a disco.

It was a fantastic trip to France and, on behalf of all the prep 6 pupils, we would like to thank the teachers who took us and gave up their time to accompany us on such a fantastic trip.

Prep 6 ~ Leavers Assembly

On Wednesday 30th June, Prep 6 held a Leavers Assembly for Parents, Grandaprents, carers and Mrs Lavin!  As the people were arriving for the assembly, they were treated to some beautiful piano playing by some of the very musically talented children in the class.  Mr Scott had produced a wonderful slide show of pictures of the children, from as far back as their Nursery years.  It brought back so many memories for the children and the visitors, and gave a few chuckles too!
As the assembly got underway, each child spoke about their memories and best moments at Redcourt, the transition of moving to secondary school and their hopes and aspirations for their future!  It was very moving, emotional and also gave a lot of laughs!!

As a surprise, FS2 (Prep 6's Reading Buddies) came into the Hall and sang a goodbye song to them!

The treats didn't stop there - afterwards the visitors and children enjoyed light refreshments outside in the sunshine and it was time for many, to reminisce. Miss Stevenson had oragnised two fabulous cakes containing pictures of every child in Prep 6 - thank you Miss Stevenson.  And as a final surprise, the Leavers Books were presented!

Many thanks go to all the Staff involved in the assembly, all the visitors and finally to the children for a fantastic contribution!
                                Good Luck Prep 6!

Thursday 24th June ~ Redcourt had invited St Mary’s Chess team to a Chess Challenge and were looking forward to some competitive games.  For over half an hour, you could hear a pin drop in the intense atmosphere of the Music Room!  Not only was one of their competitors a county player, but his father is also St Mary’s Chess coach and a Chess Champion!!  Eventually, it was an honorable draw!   Afterwards the children enjoyed some light refreshments and were allowed extra playtime on the playground!
With thanks to Mr Alcock and Mr Collins (St Mary’s Head) for organizing this challenge - of which we hope there will be many more!

"The Team" - Ellen Bridson, Harrison Moreton, Robert Ashton, Tamara Sargent, Danielle Hughes, Catherine Spencer, Matthew Outlon, Ben Jack, Edward Oulton, Michael Spencer, Lewis Burrows and Harry Branch
